The Spanish Civil War ended in 1939, but over the next four decades, the dictatorship led by Francisco Franco carried out a retaliation campaign against those who had aligned themselves with the Republican government. In Catalonia, the Generalitat declared those trials null in 2017 and released a list of the defendants whose name had been cleared after almost 80 years.
